Bearing Replacement Page

Describes the heave of superstructure which is applied separately at every pier or abutment. Only applicable to Piers or abutments with bearings.

For bearing replacement the superstructure must be jacked upwards over the pier, i.e. a vertical gap of the specified size is applied between the bearing and the superstructure. It is again assumed that the heave is identical for all bearings of a pier (no torsion is induced in the superstructure).
